We live in times of general perplexity. Even without the pandemic and climate crisis, everything seems to be in turmoil - many questions and few answers. There seems to be a standstill – for many people a feeling of hopelessness: "We have to do something!" But WHAT, HOW, WHERE and WHEN?

Our beautiful, intact world, our world of “wonderful possibilities” disassembles itself in many ways, the temperature keeps rising and society is gradually “hard-boiled”.

The collective HARD BOILED WONDERLAND was founded in summer 2019 by Sebastian Gramss. As “Primus Inter Pares” he and his colleagues developed this first program “Music Resistance” – a concert evening critical of politics and society – loud, ironic, poetic, and ruthless at the same time.

The live recording from the sold out concert in Stadtgarten, Cologne, from February 15, 2020 is now available as an elaborate 104-page textbook plus CD.

Crème de la crème of the current young German jazz scene as well as guests and protagonists from Argentina, Sri Lanka, Australia and the Ukraine came together for this project.

With “Music Resistance”, HARD BOILED WONDERLAND present an extraordinary concert evening with texts and music – as a poetic-musical reaction to the most diverse social, societal and ecological issues of our time.

The Cologne double bass player Sebastian Gramss is one of the outstanding instrumentalists, composers and conceptualists on the German jazz scene.

His diverse formations and projects such as States of Play, Slowfox, Bassmasse, Underkarl, Fossile 3, as well as his international activities in South America, South Korea, India and Angola, as well as his lectureship at the Cologne University of Music and the Osnabrück Institute for Music mark his exceptional position in the international scene.
